The National Committee for Search and Rescue compliments 2 air crews for completing rescue mission during Son Tinh Storm
On the morning of 21st November, Lieutenant General Tran Quang Khue, Standing Vice President of the National Committee for Search and Rescue awarded certificates of merit to 2 air crew of Northern Vietnam Helicopter Company, a subsidiary of Vietnam Helicopter Corporation, Ministry of Defense. These crews successfully rescue 35 people offshore during the Storm No.8.
Awarded crew members included Colonel Tran Xuan Dinh, Director; Colonel Do Xuan Hoa, Deputy Director; Senior Lieutenant Colonel Tran Quang Tuan and Senior Lieutenant Colonel Chu Quang Minh.
On 29th October, affected by the storm No.8, GSF oil rig KEY HAWAI lost connection with the tug boat, freely drifted and even tilted 5 degree down. In response to the emergency signal from the rig, VNH North promptly prepared and departed to perform the rescue mission. Two EC-155B1 were utilized performing 5 flights during adverse weather condition offshore, taking off and landing on the leaning platform to transport 35 staff back to shore safe and sound. In the next 11 days, VNH North also flew for nearly 100 hours in support of the rig repair.
