Speeding up and getting efficent by business diversification
The Viet Nam Helicopter Corporation (VNH) is known by its petroleum exploitation flights, rescue flights. But many people have not heard about the reason of the Hai Au’s good development in recent years is owing to the service diversification where VNH participates in banking, real estate, insurance, helicopter maintenance…which brings back a significant revenue. In 2006, the shareholding in the Military bank brought about a financial source accounting for 20% of the whole Corporaion profit.
Annually, the flight service generates its interests. Apart from the development investment of crew squads, VNH has invested fearlessly in banking. Being one of the founders of Military Bank (MB), with a big capital proportion, VNH is now the biggest shareholder of MB. Thus, VNH works as the Vice president of MB. Recently, VNH sets aside financing in an prestigeous insurance company, building the Hanoi stock fund… in order to assure the flight safety where the interest comes potentially. In a conversation with us, Colonel Pham Viet Thich said: “Taking part in banking and insurance, on one hand, we actively satisfy our capital demand ourselves thanks to the mobilization the social strength to parry business risks, on the other hand, they will generate interests and mutually support between services in our analysis.
Dealing the real estate, it would match the flight activity firstly, but in our detection, VNH’s bases and airports located in economics targeted areas of the country. Furthermore, the ACC company was formerly an VNH’s subsidiary and currently is Hai Au enterprise which has accumulated experiences in these services. On the other hand, headquarters of VNH’s subsidiaries situate next to crowded highways of big cities that is a big advantage for doing business, that’s why the VNH management board advocates to deal in the real estate, hotels that both earns money direct and cooperates with partners to make a significant revenue.
In the service flight, VNH still has to hire services from Bien Hoa helicopter repairing joint venture (the Arm of Aviation Defense-Air force) for the overhauling tasks. In the crew squads, Mi-172 helicopter is a majority which uses a huge annual finance of repairing. The Corporation made up his mind to take over a share in this Joint venture. Currently, with more than 50% of share, VNH is located as the Chairman and General Director of the Joint venture. With a “very respectable position”, VNH’s investment orientation is that the factory not only repairs helicopters Mi-172 but also revamps and maintains European helicopters such as Super Puma, Sicosky, EC. The new General Director of the Helicopter maintenance Joint venture (from VNH) is Senior lieutenant-colonel To Van Mai who affirms: “It is very hard for other enterprises, but we (VNH) have a real line-up of skilled aviation engineers and technical machinist with performing equipments… Furthermore, we have experienced in repairing European helicopters for tens of year”.
With the activeness of plane reparing, material supply, VNH will assure flight techniques for itself. Not only that, with an available prestige, VNH expects to receive more contracts in the region to create a stable source of income for the Corporation.
In a near future, VNH will be a prestigeous maintenance and repair center in ASEAN. Customers in ASEAN have admitted that the VNH’s service flight is an advantage because it has a fully worked-out crew, an international level pilot squad, a sufficient infrastructure and spacious airports, independent bases.
In the service flight, the major activity of VNH has been growing more and more for recent years. The evidences are negotiations with partners to obtain the right of service flights, with a “thick experience” capacity VNH has convinced partners by a serie of domestic contracts for petroleum exploration and exploitation. Since the last 2 years, VNH has taken part in flight services (leasing airplanes ans pilots) in Malaysia, India… In 2006, with a strong potential of available capital, VNH accomplished 9,450 flight hours with the revenue of about 750,510 million VND… In 2007, it is said that two new Super Puma helicopters will be brought Viet Nam by VNH to use for the country’s speeding up economy.
It is easy to think but very hard to do, from a right awareness, creativeness, it requires to have a professional line-up of management and staffs who have knowledge about international “laws”, business school of Europe, America and ASEAN. In recent years, being in contact with markets, self-studying, most of key officers in VNH’s subsidiaries have negotiation capacity with partners in which there are big petroleum firms, banks, insurance and famous airplane manufacturers.
It must say that in the military economy, VNH also plays an important role in making a national defense potentiality for the nation. The evidences are rescue and emergency affairs, VNH’s pilots and vehicles satisfied most of flight and searching requirements in harsh weather conditions. Consequently, VNH is naturally a warlike provision force for the national defense mission.
