Offshore flight for petroleum exploration and exploitation
The sea weather is very diversified, complicated includung the abnormal effect of wind with a strong speed. When the bad and abnormal weather comes the eye-shot of pilots will be impacted. There are many times planes are lowered altitude due to the air pressure.
Flying in a long distance over the sea without signposts, especially in the night, pilots are required and navigator to have a high level to travel to and back from co-ordinates of drill stations to make an accurate landing. For drilling stations where there are high drill towers and many oil and gas littering funnels, thus, the approach to the “landing plate” by seasons is very narrow and it is required experiences and a good flight experience. In night service flight to drilling stations, it requires a creativeness, higher flight capacity. Sea flights by contracts with foreign partners are not simple. They are tough sea areas with harsh climate, big waves and wind, a low temperature such as Norwegian sea area (Northern sea); the low latitude sea near the equator in Malaysia with its special features such as high temperature, abnormal wind… In recent years, VNH’s line-up of pilots and technical staffs usually flied and crew squads are “trained” there in turn that is highly appreciated by petroleum firms.
There are many important and proud milestones in the VNH’s history of flights for petroleum exploration and exploitation. The first petroleum squad which was found in 1978 firstly used to serve corps of geo-physics detection, design and potentiality estimation. The first offshore flight was carried out in the late January 1979, landing in the drilling ship DAN QUEEN of the BOVALEY petroleum Corporation (Italia)…
From hard flights with lacking of air traffic and simple information, SFC has served so far more than 50 world petroleum companies including Vietsopetro (more than 23 years), and other big oil firms like Shell, BP, Mobil…
For offshore flights, VNH has used so far modern helicopters such as Super Puma AS 332L2, EC-155B/B1… under conditions of CIS.
VNH has a fully aviation infrastructure and bases matching petroleum service flights in sea areas such as Vung Tau, Gia Lam, Nam Can, Da Nang, Tan Son Nhat…
With those qualifications, VNH is becoming a prestigeous address of offshore flights for petroleum industry in the region and the “village” of international petroleum flight.
