Emergency medical flights

Emergency medical transport service has been available since the company’s establishment in 1989 to complete assigned social task and other core services such as offshore oil & gas support, MIA program, etc. Recently, corporate and private demand for Emergency medical transport service has been dramatically increasing. The company successfully perform 3 emergency flights in 2011.

One of the most unforgettable cases was the emergency flight to rescue a female Japanese engineer who was seriously injured during a mountain climb in Son La in August 2011. After receiving request from Vietnam Airlines, VNH North promptly used the modern EC-155B1 with an experienced crew. At that time, the adverse weather conditions, requirement of short transportation time made it a huge challenge to the crew. With great dedication and thorough prepartation, the patient was transported too Noi Bai Airport for overseas transfer within only 3 hours. In January 2012, VNH North also made an emergency flight for a pregnant woman with premature birth. It is not to mentioned the case of a French tourist having his leg broken in April when visiting Lao Cai or a teacher, who had a severe traffic accident, being transported by helicopter from Ha Tinh to Gia Lam Airport, then to Hospital 108 by ambulance.

“In the next few years, the company will continue to provide this service. Emergency helicopter service is not purely for profit but simply because of human being”, said Colonel Tran Xuan Dinh.

He said that emergency medical transport service via aviation in general and helicopter in particular had considerable advantage of promptness and multi terrain versatility. This type of service is quite popular in developed nations. Over the last few years, not only foreigners in Vietnam but Vietnamese also have high demands for emergency helicopter service. Many of the emergency cases are due to traffic accidents, working incidents and partly due to fatal diseases.

VNH North has invested in helicopters, equipment, human resources and aviation infrastructure in support of this service. Traing for emegency helicopter transport in Day & Night in VMC is especially paid attention to. Owing to tough requirements of the emergency task as to “the most promptness, most quickness and best safety” and difficult landing and take-off condition, chosen pilots are those with excellent skills, great experience and high degree of accuracy.
